Screams were heard throughout the Burton neighborhood as an attack on one of the candidates running for mayor took place earlier this afternoon. The victim, Mr Egan, was stood outside the Ponsobys clothing store in Burton before he was attacked resulting in the candidate getting knocked out as onlookers spectated in fear.
Emergency services arrived at the scene as 911 calls came in from the area. Police arrived to secure the area, making sure there is no other threat to Mr Egan's life or any other pedestrians. By the time they arrived the mayor was nowhere near the scene of the attack.
An officer at the scene spoke with one of our reporters saying that there is "Crucial CCTV footage that is being investigate, that is all we are saying at this point in our investigation".
Mark Timothy, a witnessed to the attack stated, "Two individuals umped out of the car as they punched the man to the ground". He continued by saying that "After they left, a random guy that appeared to be his friend, held him up into his taxi cab and sped off".
Reports came in saying that Mr Egan was taken to the emergency room in his friend's taxi cab. Mr Egan was spotted leaving the hospital shortly after, we assume he was discharged without any major injuries.
Police investigators are urging anyone that may have any information about the suspects or any future attacks on the candidate to visit their local Police Department or contact 911.
The medical staff working at Central LS Medical Center in Davis gave a statement regarding Egan's Condition saying, "Mr Egan had a successful surgery to remove a bullet in the left side of his chest, he is currently recovering and his condition is being monitored extremely carefully". They continued on by adding "He is expected to may a full recovery".
